Singer Model 221 (Featherweight) Advanced Maintenance

NOTE:Thisclassis designed to teach advanced maintenance, disassembly and testing,and techniques to enhance your abilities with the Singer Model 221. You should alreadyhave some experience using this machine and have a full functional sewing machine. Wewill have a number of maintenance items available for purchase, such as belts, spool felts,and drip pads. David & Pat will also have a tool set appropriate for the Advanced MaintenanceClass.If you are new to the Singer 221, have a new machine, or need basic operational training orsimple repairs, then please consider our: Singer Model 221 Basic MaintenanceClass

ClassSupplies (please bring with you)

1. A working sewing machine with power cord and foot control
2. A new needle (80/12 or 90/14); Schmetz quilting is recommended
3. Cotton thread and two (2) full bobbins and test fabric.
4. Hand or small bath towel, and an apron or work shirt.
5. Tools appropriate for the machine (screwdrivers, etc).

Motor and Belt

1. Handwheel removal and replacement.
2. Motor belt removal, replacement and tension adjustment.
3. Motor performance, brush replacement.
4. Foot control performance, adjustment and discussion.

Lower Bobbin Case and Hook Assembly

1. Removal of the bobbin case base, gib hook, lubrication and replacement.
2. Bobbin tensioner spring, removal, replacement and tuning.
3. Hook assembly removal, cleaning and replacement
4. Checking the needle timing, adjustment and discussion

Top Tension Assembly

1. Disassembly, cleaning and replacement
2. Adjusting the take-up level tension spring
3. Adjusting the top tension for correct stitch formation
4. Resetting the tension number dial

Needle and Presser Bar Adjustments

1. Needle clamp removal, cleaning and replacement
2. Presser foot height and alignment adjustment
